Student demonstrations broke out in syndicates and on campuses due to the incidents of Gaza. Trade unionists, professors and students yesterday held mass demonstrations to condemn the Israeli war machine and the silence of the Arab states. Cairo University saw a demonstration by more than 1,000 students and faculty members amid heavy security for fear they would take to the nearby Israeli embassy, as the demonstrators burned the Israeli flag. Dr. Adel Abdel Gawad, President of Cairo University Teaching Club, said a demonstration will be held on Wednesday in front of the University Dome, while the Muslim Brotherhood lined up before the main gate, raising the Palestinian flag. Also 850 Muslim Brotherhood students at Helwan University demonstrated in solidarity with Gaza.
Al-Azhar University was the scene of a demonstration by more than 4,000 students for three hours amid heavy security to prevent them from taking to the streets. The Bar Association and the Medical Association also organized demonstrations that were attended by thousands and joined by many citizens. The Muslim Brotherhood bloc demanded the opening of the Rafah crossing and the lifting of the siege on Gaza. They also demanded to stop gas exports to Israel.
Ain Shams University was also the scene of two rallies, one led by Dr. Ahmed Zaki Badr, President of the university, and the second by the Muslim Brotherhood students.
