Cairo, Ain Shams and Helwan universities witnessed demonstrations yesterday on the International Students' Day under the slogan "Day of anger in universities". Students from these three institutions staged their demonstrations amid tight security measures inside and outside the universities. The students voiced their three main claims: removing university security guards, reducing fees and the costs of textbooks, and replacing the current student regulations with others giving students the freedom to exercise their political activities. At Cairo University, the students taking part in the demonstration inside the campus belonged to the movements Haqqi [My right], Muqawama [Resistance], April 6, Momkin [Perhaps] and Kefaya [Enough] as well as to the Muslim Brotherhood [MB] and the frozen Islamic Labor Party. They raised slogans such as "We want our rights, no more silence, either we get them or we die" and "Our claims or general strike on April 6". They also raised the picture of late President Nasser. At the same time, political forces (leading figures of the Democratic Front Party, the March 9 Movement and the Freedom Committee of the Syndicate of Journalists) staged a demonstration outside the campus. Meanwhile, the "Haqqi" League at Ain Shams University issued a statement calling on the students of that university to respond to the call of political and student movements in different Egyptian universities on the International Students' Day. In the meantime, Ain Shams Students' Union staged an event to raise the students' awareness about the history of the Palestinian Cause and the Arab-Israeli conflict from 1948 until the recent events in Gaza. They also launched a blood donation campaign in cooperation with the Egyptian Red Crescent.
