Scores of bloggers, political activists and members of the Ghadeboon [Angry] Movement staged a protest two days ago before the Press Syndicate. They called for enforcing the Administrative Judiciary Court's ruling on canceling Abu Hazirah birthday, which is celebrated on December 25. The participants chanted slogans and carried Egyptian flags and banners. The protest was joined by some relatives of those being detained on the backdrop of el-Mahalla events, as they called for releasing these detainees. Hamdeen Sabahi, MP and Al-Karama editor in chief, said protests would continue till the Egyptian government cancels Abu Hazirah's birthday. For his part, former board member of the Bar Association Gamal Tag Eddin said the birthday is a great insult to Egypt, adding that ignoring judicial rulings would increase tension and chaos and harms Egypt's future. Hussein el-Qabbani, coordinator of "Bloggers against Abu Hazirah's Birthday", said bloggers have launched many campaigns over the past two years to cancel the birthday, but in vain. He added that the area surrounding Abu Hazirah's alleged tomb turns into a military barracks during the celebrations.
