Popular Movement to Prevent Israelis from Celebrating Abu Hazirah
Published in Almasry Alyoum on 26 - 12 - 2008

Reactions rejecting celebrating Jewish Abu Hazirah birthday have escalated in Dimetwa village of Beheira.
The Ghadeboun Movement (Popular Movement for Liberating Egypt) staged a protest yesterday before the Public Prosecutor's office.
It called for enforcing a court ruling that was issued in 2001 on canceling celebrating Abu Hazirah. The protesters condemned the celebration and burned the Israeli flag.

Political and partisan forces, including the Muslim Brotherhood (MB), formed a popular movement to prevent the celebration.
A number of bloggers and participants on ‘facebook' and other forums called for enforcing the ruling that was issued five years ago.
Coordinator of Ghadeboun Movement Ahmed Abu Doma said the movement formed a force of 3,000 citizens from Beheira to cancel the celebration.

The movement would use all possible means, including force, to stop the celebration, Abu Doma said, adding that there would be human shields to prevent the Israeli delegation from arriving in the village.
Magdy el-Manawi, member of the Chamber of travel agencies, said some 12 Egyptian travel agencies, which were organizing trips for this occasion, stopped their activities since the breakup of the Palestinian uprising.
Figures mentioned by the media about the number of Jews in Beheira at the site of the event are exaggerated, he said, adding that the largest number did not exceed 3,000 Jews 12 years ago, but now there is only one hundred Jews who may be non-Israelis.

It is the security bodies that organize the Jews' visit to Cairo and Beheira to celebrate Abu Hazirah birthday because the Egyptian-Israeli Peace Agreement gave the Israelis the right to walk a distance of 50 kilometers in South Sinai without a visa, he added.
