Wheat importers' conflicting interests and competition for their country and the interests of some owners of mills and bakeries are behind the current uproar over bad wheat, Minister of Trade and Industry Rashid Mohamed Rashid said. In an interview given to Al-Masry Al-Youm, he said some owners of mills and bakeries traffic in subsidized flour, which is allocated for producing local bread. Therefore, the media should always check the accuracy of information that may be aimed at causing confusion among the public. In response to a question on MP Saad Aboud's statements that he has relations with wheat importers, Rashid said: "This is groundless." The MP tried to create a problem to be shot to fame, he said. He, as a member in the parliament that was chosen by the people to defend their interests, had to stay away from such matters without having documents proving his allegations, the minister added. MP Aboud, member of Al-Karama Party, had referred to Rashid's relation with wheat importer Mohamed Abdel Fadil, who imported some five million tons of wheat last August.
