Al-Masry Al-Youm has learnt that silos companies have leaked the Ukrainian wheat impounded by the agriculture quarantine bodies to mills before this being distributed to the bakeries overseen by the Ministry of Social Solidarity. Well-informed sources said that the silos company in el-Husseiniya (governorate of Sharkia) took 350 tons of Ukrainian wheat to mills to produce bread although that wheat had been impounded by the agricultural quarantine bodies as it contained harmful weeds and dead insects. The sources also affirmed that the control bodies are investigating to find those involved into the smuggling of Ukrainian wheat from the silos company to the mills and the bakeries in order to send them to justice. The sources pointed out that the silos company in Imbaba [Cairo] took to mills close to them 750 tons of Ukrainian wheat impounded for more than nine months by the agricultural quarantine agencies due to the presence of poisonous weeds and dead insects. The wheat would then be distributed to bakeries. Some experts at the Ministry of Agriculture stressed the need to revoke the previous instructions calling for impounding imported wheat until it is sifted in case it contains more poisonous weeds or dead insects than the normal levels. They urged to immediately destroy the irregular shipments or re-export them to their countries of origin so that milling companies do not leak this banned wheat to markets or bakeries.
