While the President was talking in his speech in his speech about the preservation of the national security of Egypt as being his responsibility before God, Menoufia deputy Atef el-Hallal shouted: “How about the visas Mr. President?” So for him the pilgrimage visas are more important than national security. He reminded me of Sayed Rashed, Chairman of the Federation of Labor Unions, when he interrupted the President during his speech on Labor Day by shouting: “How about the bonus Mr. President?” Remember when we saw in the movie on President Nasser that when he would say the word ‘De Lesseps' in his speech, the officers should go and nationalize the Suez Canal Company? It seems someone told Hallal that the secret word here would be ‘National Security' for him to shout for the visas. I think the President, being the elder of Menoufia, did not like this. He would have slapped Hallal on the face had he been near. In Menoufia, the constituency of Kamal el-Shazli, no voice should be louder than that of the elder. How dare he? Perhaps the President should reconsider the representation percentage of peasants and workers in Parliament. It was a shameful act that Shazli would bear because it came from a man from his constituency. Shazli was expecting that man to hang a giant picture in Menoufia of him and the President with Hallal in the middle as a token of appreciation. Instead, the man does this shameful thing in Parliament and on TV live. Perhaps this proves the talk about Shazli considering retirement to write his memoirs that he would call ‘MP for 30 years (from 1964 to 1994)'. There was also talk about him bequeathing his place in Parliament to his son Mo'taz. Why not? Mo'taz is a fine young man. Hallal must be sweating buckets now, as he knows Shazli would not let this go unpunished.
