The Cairo Appeals Court on Wednesday set 11 May for the retrial of former President Hosni Mubarak. Mubarak was convicted in August on charges involving protester deaths during the January 2011 uprising that ended his 30-year rule. His appeal case against the life sentence handed down to him last year began Saturday in Cairo and was immediately adjourned when the Cairo Criminal Court judge recused himself and referred the case to the appellate court. In January, the Court of Cassation, ordered a retrial for Mubarak after accepting an appeal against his life sentence, citing procedural failings.
