Mubarak has not asked for political amnesty: Defence lawyer
The lawyer of Hosni Mubarak says there has been no deal forged with President Morsi nor the armed forces over granting the former president political amnesty
Published in Ahram Online on 14 - 04 - 2013

Farid El-Dib, lawyer to deposed president Hosni Mubarak, expressed he has not heard any words of hostility spoken by Mubarak against current President Mohamed Morsi, adding that he rarely comments on current events in Egypt.
In an appearance on “60 Minutes” on the private satellite channel Mehwar late Saturday, El-Dib denied there had been any negotiations with the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) or the Muslim Brotherhood, from which Morsi hails.
“Former President Mubarak did not commit any crime in order to ask for amnesty,” El-Dib stressed.
He further stated that Mubarak is regretful of not having left office in 2004, long before the 25 January Revolution in 2011. He added that Mubarak also had no intentions of making his son, Gamal, take up power after him. He refuted rumours that Kuwaiti and Emirati leaders have called for an amnesty for Mubarak.
On Saturday, Mubarak was set to face a retrial on accusations related to the killing of protesters during the 18-day 2011 uprising. The trial was postponed, however, after the judge presiding over the case, Mostafa Hassan Abdullah of Cairo Criminal Court, recused himself and referred the case to the Cairo Appeal Court.
Mubarak was convicted in June 2012 of failing to protect peaceful protesters and slapped with a life imprisonment sentence. In January 2013, an appeal court ordered a retrial for Mubarak and co-defendants due to procedural irregularities in the initial trial.
Mubarak's former interior minister, Habib El-Adly, and six of his top aides face retrial for their role in the killing of protesters during the 25 January uprising.
El-Adly, like Mubarak, was hit with a life sentence. However, his six aides were all acquitted.
