An Egyptian national died in hospital Tuesday, nine days after being shot in the head by a Saudi citizen in the city of Hafr Al Batin in Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province. Two other Egyptians were also injured in the 1 February shooting. The Saudi perpetrator claimed that the three shootings had been accidental. All three Egyptians were originally from the southern city of Sohag. Two are brothers, and the third a cousin. Ragab Hamed, one of the injured victims, told Al-Masry Al-Youm over the telephone that he and his colleagues did not know the Saudi man, nor did they know his reasons for shooting them. According to Ghariba Hamed, Ragab's aunt, Egyptian authorities failed to react to the incident, with the exception of Manpower Minister Aisha Abdel Hadi, who called the Egyptian ambassador in Saudi Arabia to demand an explanation. Abdel Hadi also called the Egyptian labor envoy to Saudi Arabia, threatening him with dismissal if he did not take appropriate measures to help the victims and bring them home safely.
