A cut in the fiber-optic cables of Telecom Egypt has caused breakdowns in the company's "communications network" yesterday morning. This had a negative impact on the mobile and Internet networks in Upper Egypt for several hours. The company's engineers repaired the breakdowns in the cables between Beni Suef and Cairo provinces. However, the impact will continue till today morning. At Cairo International Airport, the excavation works between terminals No. 2 and 3 caused a cut in a cable serving 500 telephone lines. This had a negative impact on many departments in the airport. Hassan Rashid, Board Chairman of Cairo International Airport Company, said it is Telecom Egypt that should be blamed for this breakdown because it replaced a cable in the multi-story garage, which is established in the region, without informing the airport. For his part, Minister of Communications and Information Technology Tareq Kamel called for a detailed report on the effects of this on the mobile and Internet services at Upper Egypt and Cairo Airport.
