We Wish such Charge against Minister!
Published in Almasry Alyoum on 01 - 07 - 2009

During the inauguration of al-Qadi mosque, Benha city, Hamdi Zaqzouq, Minister of Wakfs (religious endowments), said preachers do not receive instructions from anybody. I think the minister meant to say that he, as a minister, does not interfere in the work of preachers, who freely talk about what they want, especially in Friday congregational prayers!

If this respected minister made a decision not to interfere in the work of preachers, he should backtrack on such a decision. If he thought that his interference is a charge, he should not be surprised at my saying: "This is the only charge we hope from the bottom of our hearts to prove. In fact, Zaqzouq should say: I'm honored to be accused of this charge!

Minister Zaqzouq knows well what is said in mosques, from Alexandria to Aswan, every Friday. He also knows well that he – by virtue of his position - is responsible for the largest weekly conference (Friday prayers) whose attendees are more than those of the ruling National Democratic Party (NDP) conferences!

The respected minister knows that what is said in this large conference, 54 times a year, is blindly believed by people, who think that this is what is said by (God and the Prophet). In fact, most of what is said in mosques has nothing to do with the instructions of God and the Prophet.
Moreover, it could not be accepted by any logic or reason or religion! I have prayed in different mosques and heard things impossible to be said by God or the Prophet. How can the Prophet, who was known for his forgiveness, say words inciting people to commit an offence! In fact, many preachers spoil minds of people.
Please Minister Zaqzouq, intervene and direct these preachers, especially the unenlightened majority of them. You should ask them to talk about subjects that could be understood by ordinary people because this would act in the interest of the country. Please intervene and be proud of your intervention. You should ask these preachers to call on people to accept the other, and to be honest, truthful, clean and diligent!

Most of what is said by these preachers destroys the most beautiful things in our life, or to be more accurate, what "was" in our life. We beseech you to save the remaining good values. You can do that, by virtue of your position. Do not let us down!
