A President''s Amazing Tale!
Published in Almasry Alyoum on 25 - 06 - 2009

Perhaps, those of you who paid attention to the visit paid by the Russian President, Medvedev, to Cairo, might fail to recognize that, just as Obama spoke to the Muslims through Cairo University, Medvedev came to speak to the Arab world through the Arab League.
Again, just as Obama said that there was no reason for any kind of hostility between his country and the Islamic world, Medvedev said his country embraced 20 million Muslims. So, it is very evident that, both of the two men wanted to have a place as well as a position in Egypt
In his first visit to an Arab or African country since he hold office, Medvedev chose Egypt. Indeed, this might be of a very special importance. Of an equal importance as well might be the fact that the man was likely to come to Egypt to visit his country's embassy located in the Egyptian area of Al Dokki.
However, more important than all these things is not how Medvedev came to visit our country or his country's embassy, but rather how he did manage to hold office in Moscow.
How it did happen that mighty Vladimir Putin came out of the Kremlin at the very moment Medvedev stepped into it, is still most important!
Until a very recent date, Putin was just in the place of Medvedev. He has remained in power for eight years. Those eight years have been a good opportunity for Russia to be lifted from the miserable fate as well as miserable deterioration that was facing her.
Indeed, such deterioration was controlling Russia to the extent that Russian army officers, as well as soldiers, were selling their weapons in return for something they could live with.
Yet, Putin managed, in eight years, to raise his country from the bottom up to the heights. Having been able to lay the grounds for a very powerful national economy, the man came to make of his experience an object of surprise and admiration!

Suddenly and in spite of a deeply-rooted desire to stay, Putin discovered that he had to leave the presidential palace. Russian constitution has been and continues to prevent him, and others, to stay in power more than eight years. So, it was inevitable that he leave. The man has already left; but before leaving; he wanted to make sure that he would be able to hold office once more.
An ultimately exceptional thing took place; Putin came with his Prime Minister to hold office. Of course, nothing like that could ever take place in any other capital city all over the world. Putin introduced Medvedev to take Putin's own place. Unexpectedly, Putin took some steps back to take Medvedev's previous job and become the Prime Minister of Russia.
In a glance of an eye, the superior becomes inferior and vise versa. By night, Medvedev is the Prime Minister; in the morning, he becomes the President. On the contrary, poor Putin encountered an opposite experience! Yet, Putin managed to retain some allocations which belonged to the days of his presidency. Such allocations included, among other things and above all, the presidential jet he used to fly around the world!
At the time being, no one could ever tell how they both – Medvedev and Putin – deal with one another, or how each of them sees the other. In fact, no one could ever tell, how each one of the two thinks of a day, wherein, at an exceptional act of change, each may return to his old place.
But, we all know that Putin had been able to amend the constitution, so that he could stay forever. He chose to pay respect to himself, his country, his citizens, his country's constitution, and even his Prime Minister.
He favored all these to himself and left the Kremlin completely satisfied. Still, more important than satisfaction is laying the foundations for respecting the constitution, as a value!
Unfortunately, we need to know that the entire misery we are flooded into can be reverted to one only fact: our constitution has never been paid respect by anyone!!!
