The Health Ministry yesterday announced that the H1N1 (known as swine flu) cases in Egypt have reached 40. Dr. Abdel Rahman Shahin, the ministry spokesman, said in press statements yesterday that the latest case is of a 13-year-old Egyptian girl that came with her parents from the United States on June 20. She was taken to Tanta Fever Hospital yesterday, and her condition is stable. He said she is the sister of case No. 35 that was discovered yesterday. He said two more cases have recovered and left hospital, bringing the total recoveries to 28 cases, with 12 cases still under treatment. Reuters quoted Dr. Amr Kandil, General Manager of the Preventive Medicine Department, as saying he fears there would be more undetected cases in Egypt, especially that the symptoms are similar to those of the bird flu. Meanwhile, the hospitals in the provinces yesterday isolated 15 suspected cases.
