The Cairo Governor, Dr. Abdel Azim Wazir, suspended all dealings with the building number 50 on Khoronfosh Street and the building number 17 on Sakalia Street in Gamalia until the completion of the ongoing investigation to determine their ownership. Wazir instructed Major-General Salah Abdel Moez, the chairman of the local council, to seal-off the buildings and make sure their features are not changed.
Assistant Governor Mahmoud Yassin said a committee of the heads of the local councils was formed to make an inventory of all the Jewish properties and determine their ownership.
He told Al-Masry Al-Youm that the inventory will be completed within a week, and that any irregularities with these properties will be reported to the police.
The Governor had received a report from Major-General Mahmoud Yassin, saying that the first property has two entrances on Khoronfosh Street. It consists of three buildings, including a synagogue that now belongs to the Ministry of Endowments as per the request of the Jewish community.
The Governor asked the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Endowments if the synagogue was registered as an historical monument. He also asked the committee to determine if the properties should be considered as having a distinct architectural character.
