According to informed sources, the government has dismissed MP and former housing minister Ibrahim Soliman from the presidency of a public-sector oil services company, a position he held since last June. The decision comes in the wake of a ruling by the State Council that sitting members of parliament cannot legally assume any other official positions. Sources went on to say that Soliman would have to return some LE7 million he received in salaries for the period he served with the company. The former minister was also reportedly barred from leading a company business trip to Saudi Arabia scheduled for Monday. "Soliman cannot resign because he was appointed to the company by prime ministerial decree," said independent MP Alaa Abdel Moneim.
