Cairo - Egyptian parliamentarian Sharif Al-Wardani congratulated those prisoners who have been released upon presidential pardon from Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi on the occasion of Eid Al-Adha. Al-Wardani said that the Egyptian president is keen to respond to the demands of the Egyptian people, saying that Egypt witnessed increasing freedom of expression since the ascent of President Sisi to power in 2014. Marking the feast of Eid Al-Adha, 114 prisoners were released following a presidential pardon issued to mark the religious feast on Friday. Joy and gratitude were witnessed among the released prisoners and their families at Tura prison. The Egyptian constitution under article 155 gives the president the authority to pardon or commute the sentence of prisoners, following consultations with the Council of Ministers.
