Cairo – Undersecretary of Al-Azhar Dr. Abbas Shoman has condoled with the Egyptian people over the victims of the terrorist attack that targeted an army checkpoint in Rafah, North Sinai, on Friday. Speaking over the phone to the news bulletin aired on Egypt's ON Live TV channel on Monday, Shoman stressed the need for correcting misconceptions about Islam. "Al-Azhar exerts strenuous efforts to protect Egypt's youth from extremist thoughts," he said, adding that a campaign has been recently launched by Al-Azhar to support the Egyptian Armed Forces. Gunmen driving booby-trapped vehicles targeted an army checkpoint on Friday, leaving 26 servicemen dead and injured.
