Northern Sinai - At least 10 soldiers were killed, including a colonel and several others wounded, in an attack on a security checkpoint in the city of Rafah in the Egyptian province of North Sinai, on Friday morning. According to Egyptian security sources, Sky News Arab reported that gunmen attacked a gathering point for the army, in the village of Al-Barth in the city of Rafah.
The sources said that the attack was carried out using a car bomb implanted near the security checkpoint and then detonated, followed by clashes with heavy artillery and mortar shells, killing and injuring a number of military personnel, including Colonel Ahmed Mansi, commander of the "Shock troop" Battalion 103, as well as a number of militants.
