Nigeria pledges support for Egypt's candidate for UNESCO top job

Abuja - The Federal government has assured the Egyptian government of its support for the country's candidate for the post of Director General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).
Egypt is sponsoring Moushira Khattab for the position, and Nigeria assured the northern country of maximum support.
A press statement Friday, said the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, spoke when Khattab visited his office in Abuja.
He noted that Nigeria and Egypt have had a cordial bilateral relationship and cooperation, especially in education.
Mr. Adamu commended the Egyptian government for the scholarships awarded to Nigerian students, saying Nigeria will continue to collaborate with Egypt.
Khattab, a former Ambassador of Egypt to South Africa spoke of the need for the two countries to continue to work together.
"My focus will be to promote human rights, world peace and empowerment of youths," she said.
The Egyptian ambassador to Nigeria, Assem Hanify, said his country and Nigeria had a friendly relationship and were co-members of the E9 countries.
He said many Nigerians were studying in Egypt, and added that Egyptian Cultural Center awarded nine scholarship offers to Nigerian students from Jigawa, Kano, Katsina and Bauchi in 2011.
