Egypt equips police with detention rooms on wheels to tackle militancy

Cairo - Egyptian police have received a fleet of vehicles equipped with detention rooms and sophisticated technological equipment to apprehend extremists and criminals.
Egyptian Interior Ministry confirmed the purchase of the vans which will be used during security patrols and forensic operations, Saudi news portal Al Arabiya reported Friday.
The vehicles are reported to be fitted with a camera system connected to a tracking device that can trace their location vis GPS.
Policemen have been trained to operate the new vehicles which can transfer data wirelessly to operation room countrywide, the portal added.
Egypt is a target for Islamist extremists with the latest bomb attacks in Tanta and Alexandria where at least 45 worshippers died and over a hundred injured during Sunday mass ahead of Easter eve prayer services.
The government declared a state of emergency and called in the army to protect "vital" installations.
