Parliament's legislative affairs committee approved Tuesday a proposal to amend the state of emergency law No.162 for 1958, Albawba News reported. The proposal presented by MP Tharwat Bekheit from Support Egypt Coalition stated that police forces are allowed to arrest suspects, inspect houses or any place searching for explosives, arms or evidence related to crimes, and detain suspects in custody for seven days after obtaining the permission from general prosecution. The amendments will also allow security to keep suspects in custody for one-month period, that can be renewed.
