U.S. State Department denounced, in a statement, the terrorist attacks on Egyptian churches that killed dozens of people and injured many others on celebrations of Palm Sunday. "The United States condemns in the strongest terms the barbaric attacks on Christian places of worship in Tanta and Alexandria... We express our condolences to the families and friends of the victims and wish a quick recovery for all those injured," the statement reads. The United States renewed its support to Egypt's efforts to defeat terrorism, amid international condemnation of the church bombings. US President Donald Trump said he is "so sad to hear of the terrorist attack" against the US ally. He added in a tweet Sunday that he has "great confidence" that Egyptian President Al-Sissi, "will handle the situation properly." The Palm Sunday attacks on Coptic Orthodox churches in the Nile Delta city of Tanta and in Alexandria took place less than a week after Trump welcomed the Egyptian leader to the White House.
