US made great progress in relations with Egypt today: Trump
Published in Albawaba on 03 - 04 - 2017

US President Donald Trump said Monday that his country has made great progress in the relations with Egypt, after the conclusion of the bilateral meeting with President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi at the White House in Washington D.C.
Meanwhile, President Sisi's adviser for the economic affairs Kamal Ganzouri commented in a statement to ‘dmc' TV on the president's visit to the US, saying: "All experts expected that the president went to US to discuss military aid, but he surprised everyone by talking about the Palestinian issue, which makes all Egyptians feel proud of the president".
"We need to cooperate with the US, especially in the fight against terrorism, as the whole world has become aware of the serious threat of terrorism. The recent attacks in Russia and Belgium prove that Egypt has been doing well in dealing with terrorism," he added.
On the other hand, UAE minister of state for foreign affairs Anwar Qarqash wrote on his official Twitter account that the meeting between Sisi and Trump is an encouraging sign towards security and stability in the Middle East region.
He pointed out that the meeting comes after what he called "The suffering of the region from the destructive winds of change."
Prominent Palestinian journalist Jihad al-Khazen praised in a statement to ‘dmc' TV the meeting between both presidents, stressing that the US administration is well aware of the importance of Egypt and its strategic role in the Middle East region, in light of the spread of terrorism.
He also praised Sisi's visit to the US, saying that it succeeded and yielded a number of positive indicators for further cooperation between the two countries, especially in the fight against terrorism, which is a common ground for both sides.
He stressed on the need for the US to provide Egypt with modern and advanced weapons that enable it to play its vital role in the fight against terrorism to the fullest.
Sisi and Trump discussed ways to promote bridges of understanding on the nature of the challenges facing the region, as well as ways to address them, during the meeting.
Both presidents aim to confirm the strategic nature of the relations between the countries and them in the coming period in all areas.
