A Muslim Brotherhood-linked group claimed Saturday's bombing in the Delta city of Tanta that killed a police sergeant and wounded 16 others, some of them seriously, police sources said on Sunday. Lewaa al-Thawra (Revolution Brigade) militant group released a statement which claimed the blast that targeted a police training camp in Tanta. An official at Gharbeya security Directorate, who requested anonymity, said the blast was prepared to target 300 conscripts and a police sergeant while leaving the camp at 3:30 pm Cairo local time. He added that a mistake in the explosive charge thwarted a colossal number of casualties. The wounded included three civilians who were passing by near the bombing scene. The killed policeman has been identified as Mohamed Farag. He succumbed to his wounds at hospital. Medical sources confirmed six wounded people are in critical conditions. On March 29th, an explosive device was defused near Mary Girgis Church in Tanta without any casualties reported. Since the ouster of former Islamist President Mohamed Morsi, who hails from the MB group, in 2013, a string of deadly bombings have hit police and military personnel, particularly in the Sinai Peninsula. The attacks sometimes extended to Cairo and other provinces. The MB's one-year long rule was ousted amid mass street protests supported by the Egyptian army. In September 2013, Egypt's interim authorities designated MB as a terror organization. Egyptian military launched a severe crackdown over militant group in the country. Officials said hundreds of militants were killed and arrested.
