SOS Mediterranée & ANSA - Bodies of 16 migrants were recovered in a series of rescues coordinated by the Italian Coast Guard's Rome operations centre on Sunday evening, in which 800 people were saved from migrant boats off the coast of Libya. The migrants, who were traveling on five rubber dinghies and four small boats, were saved in nine total rescue operations. The operations involved three rescue ships: the SOS Mediterranée ship Aquarius, the Italian Coast Guard ship Diciotti, and the Irish military ship Samuel Beckett, all of which are now headed for Italy.
