The deputy chairman of South Sudan's National Alliance of opposition parties says he is concerned by continuing targeting civilians in Juba city even after the ceasefire was declared last week and government forces were ordered to return to their barracks. Speaking to Radio Tamazuj yesterday, Kornelio Kon said the situation in Juba is still bad, saying that civilians are being arrested from their homes and hotels in Juba. He added that there is insecurity in the residential areas. Kon pointed out that although the president directed the organized forces to return to their barracks, violation against civilians is still continuing, saying what is happening is in violation of the president directives. "The president announced a ceasefire and directed the organized forces to return to their barracks for the security to prevail but there is still insecurity inside Juba and arrests among the civilians in the hotels and houses," said Kon. "This is in contrary to the president's directives," he added. Meanwhile, Kon says he does not expect the situation in South Sudan to be contained due to the divisions among the people caused by the recent fighting in Juba and the lack of political will between the two warring parties.
