Canada's Minister of Foreign Affairs Stephane Dion confirmed that two Canadian citizens were among the passengers of the EgyptAir plane which crashed in the Mediterranean Sea.
Two Canadians were on board of the EgyptAir plane which crashed in the Mediterranean Sea, and the authorities are working to verify whether any more citizens were on the flight, Canada's Minister of Foreign Affairs Stephane Dion announced in a statement on Thursday.
"Based on the information currently available, we confirm that two Canadian citizens are among the passengers on this flight," Dion stated. "Canadian officials are working closely with the authorities to confirm whether there were any additional Canadian citizens on board."
The minister added that the Canadian authorities are working with French and Egyptian officials to assess the situation and consider requests for support.
The EgyptAir flight departed from the Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris, France, at 23:09 GMT on Wednesday. The aircraft was heading for Cairo International Airport. According to the airline, there were a total of 66 people on board the plane, including 56 passengers.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry confirmed Thursday the wreckage of the missing A320 plane had been found near Greece's Karpathos Island, the EgyptAir airline said in a statement.
