Minister of environment, Khaled Fahmy will launch Saturday 15th session of African Ministerial Conference on Environment (AMCEN), in El Tagamu El Khames district, at the city of New Cairo, Cairo governorate. Fahmy said in a statement to reporters that the climate change conferences do not discuss environmental issues only, but also the economic issues, as they deal with the countries that bear the cost of the effects of climate change, Al Bawaba News reported. Such conferences deal with means for developing countries, especially the African countries which are most affected by climate change, to obtain the necessary funding to deal with the effects of the climate change, he explained. Furthermore, he pointed out that the African continent faces major challenges, including the pursuit of rapid growth and creation of job opportunities for young people who are considered to be the dominant group of the population. The minister noted the challenges of saving energy that requires special projects, which necessitated the launch of initiatives of renewable energy and adaptation in Africa. Also, he stressed on the importance of unity between Egypt and African brotherly countries in order to maintain a unified negotiating position.
