Cypriot authorities announced Tuesday that the hijacker of EgyptAir plane Sayf Al Din Mustafa Mohamed, who forced pilots to fly plane to Cyprus, sought asylum to Cyprus, while procedures to hand him over to Egypt has already started. The Cypriot authorities explained that the immigration department is currently considering Mohamed's request, while in the same time continuing his extradition procedures, Al Bawaba News reported. Cyprus had announced its approval on Egypt's request for the extradition of Mohamed to Cairo, adding that a hearing for this request is scheduled to take place on April 22.
