GCC's Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Negotiations, Dr. Abdul Aziz Hamad Aluwaisheg has confirmed the importance of periodic meetings with the ambassadors of the 18-member transit process sponsoring countries to Yemen, which was hosted by Yemeni President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi at his residence in Riyadh yesterday evening.
The meeting was attended by ambassadors of the GCC countries accredited to Yemen, along with the ambassadors of the permanent members of the Security Council and representatives of the Secretariat states.
Dr. Aluwaishegin said in a statement today that President Hadi stressed to the ambassadors of sponsoring countries to the Gulf initiative his government's support for a political solution in Yemen and therefore has informed the UN special envoy to Yemen, Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, of his government's acceptance to begin consultations under the auspices of the United Nations in Kuwait on 18th of April.
He praised the great role played by GCC countries and the States of Arab Coalition led by Saudi Arabia to supporting legitimacy in preserving the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Yemen.
The Assistant Secretary-General reiterated the GCC's support for the talks sponsored by the United Nations to be held in Kuwait, and the GCC countries' interest in the humanitarian situation in Yemen, and their efforts coordinated by the Salman Centre for Relief and Humanitarian Aid to provide humanitarian assistance in all Yemeni provinces.
For their part, the ambassadors expressed their respective countries' support for the Yemeni President and his government, and all his efforts to establish peace in Yemen, looking forward to the results of the meeting to be hosted by Kuwait in achieving security and stability.
