Prominent Sudanese politician Hassan al-Turabi, the founder of Popular Congress Party (PCP), has died in Khartoum at the age of 84. Turabi was reportedly died from heart attack when he was working in his office and was taken to the hospital. State-run Omdurman TV says the head of the PCP passed away on Saturday at the Royal Care International Hospital in the Sudanese capital. A PCP member confirmed that the Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir will be present at the funeral. Turabi played a key role in the 1989 coup that brought al-Bashir to power. He was portrayed by many as the godfather of the new regime.
