Beijing has issued its first ever "Red Alert" over the city's air pollution, as the government warned that Beijing would be shrouded in heavy smog from Tuesday until Thursday, Al-Bawaba News reported Monday. China's leadership has vowed to crack down on environmental degradation, including the air pollution that blankets many major cities, following decades of unbridled economic growth. Meanwhile, Beijing city government ordered schools to close its doors in these days. The warning issued after days of heavy smog last week, also puts traffic restrictions on certain types of vehicles in the city of 22.5 million people.
