Israeli naval forces opened fire at Palestinian fishing boats off the coast of northwestern Gaza on Friday, witnesses said. The fishermen said Israeli navy boats deployed across the shores of the Gaza Strip opened fire directly at their boats, forcing fishermen to dock before the end of their working day out of fear they would be hit by incoming fire. No injuries were reported. An Israeli army spokesperson did not immediately respond for comment. Israeli forces have repeatedly opened fire on Palestinian fisherman and farmers since the ceasefire agreement signed Aug. 26, 2014 that ended a devastating 50-day Israeli military offensive against the Gaza Strip. At least three Palestinian fishermen have been shot dead by Israeli forces since last September. Israeli forces often allege that fishermen deviate from the designated fishing zone and pose a security threat.
