Airstrikes launched by the US-led coalition destroyed an ISIS military camp and burned three of the organization's vehicles in Sultan Abdulla village on the Gwer-Makhmour front, a Peshmerga official told Rudaw on Saturday. "At 5am, Peshmerga along with the US coalition managed to target ISIS strongholds. A wave of airstrikes were conducted on ISIS military camps which resulted in burning three vehicles along with some heavy weapons belonging to the terrorist organization," Peshmerga commander Sherzad Ramazan said. "For awhile, ISIS used that military camp to attack Peshmerga with mortar shells, but with the aid of coalition warplanes the camp is destroyed and several ISIS members have been gunned down." In recent days, multiple groups of ISIS fighters have surrendered to Peshmerga forces at various points along the Gwer-Makhmour front some 60 km southwest of Erbil. "We fled for two reasons: fearing death and starvation," one of those who surrendered told Rudaw. "There is no trust within the organization [ISIS]. If they suspect a militant they will kill him right away." Makhmour, in disputed lands south of Erbil, was captured by the so-called Islamic State and occupied for three days earlier this year. The area was recaptured by Kurdish forces backed by coalition airstrikes.
