Russian Bombers Carry Out 60 Strikes, Hit 51 Terrorist Targets in Syria
Published in Albawaba on 18 - 10 - 2015

The Russian Aerospace Forces have conducted 39 sorties and carried out 60 strikes over the past 24 hours, hitting 51 ISIS targets in the Syria's Hama, Latakia, Damascus, Aleppo provinces, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Sunday.
Russian bombers have destroyed 4 terrorist command centers, 6 ammunition depots, 2 underground bunkers, 32 field camps, 6 strongholds and a mortar battery over the past 24 hours, the Russian Defense Ministry's spokesman said.
Russian Su-34 aircraft have hit and destoyed ISIS underground fortified positions on the outskirts of Talbiseh in the Homs province, Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov said. He added the facility housed a small warehouse manifacturing impovised unguided rockets.
"This facility had an extensive network of underground tunnels, which allowed the militants secretly visit different areas of the city and to conduct mobile defense against the Syrian government forces. One bunker was equipped with an arsenal of ammunition and improvised explosive devices designed to carry out terror attacks and sabotage."
"It should be noted that there are such tunnel networks in many regions of the Syrian Arab Republic, which are still under terrorists' control," Konashenkov added.
A major ammunition supply point of terrorists in the Syrian Damascus province, including 4 armored vehicles, has been destroyed by Su-25 jets.
"During the aerial reconnaissance in the vicinity of Eastern Ghouta in the province of Damascus a major ammunition supply point, which provided militants with ammunition, food and fuel, was uncovered."
According to the Russian general, tensions simmer between jihadists in Syria as ISIS carried out 3 terrorist attacks against Nusra Front militants near Idlib.
"Tensions increase between various terrorist groups caused by the struggle for control over territories and cash flows. According to radio intercepts, only last week ISIS carried out three terror attacks using car bombs against Jabhat al-Nusra [Nusra Front] field commanders near the city of Idlib."
Konashenkov added that Nusra Front leaders conduct forced mobilization of locals in the provinces of Idlib and Hama, threatening to execute their families, while in the Raqqa province ISIS terrorists carry out total mobilization of men older than 14 years old.
ISIL leaders ordered field commanders to intensify usage of car bombs and other self-made explosives at the main highways and in inhabited areas of Syria, the Russian Defense Ministry's spokesman said.
He added that a Su-24 Fencer attack aircraft's strike on Jaish al-Fatah (Army of Conquest) terrorist group's command post in the Syria's Hama province has disrupted the group's coordination and made its militants leave the battlefield.
"The strike disrupted control of the Jaysh Al-Fateh units located in the region [of Kafr Zita in the Hama province]. The terrorists have left the combat area after the strike."
