Grand imam of Egypt's al-Azhar Ahmed al-Tayeb discussed with Jordanian King Abdullah II on Thursday the latest Israeli breaches against the holy al-Aksa Mosque, al-Bawaba News reported. Al-Tayeb, currently on an official visit to Jordan, has tackled a number of issues of concern for Arab and Islamic nations as well as means to combat extremism, sources said. During the meeting, al-Tayeb also discussed the role played by al-Azhar o fight extremist ideologies, highlighting the distinguished role played by the Hashemite kingdome to defend al-Aksa Mosque. Al-Tayeb, head of the Muslim Council of Elders, arrived in Amman on Tuesday following Israeli breaches of al-Aksa, the third holiest place for Muslims, including Israeli police entering the mosque, firing rubber-coated steel bullets and stun grenades injuring several worshipers.
