Egypt's Ambassador to Jordan, Khaled Tharwat confirmed on Sunday that the embassy does not accept prejudice or assault on the dignity of any Egyptian worker in a private kingdom, and that the Egyptian workers contribute significantly to the growth of the Jordanian economy. This was commenting on the reported attack Jordanian citizens, accompanied by one of the members of the Jordanian House of Representatives yesterday, where they severely hit an Egyptian worker at a restaurant in the city of Aqaba. The ambassador said in a statement to a reporter and Middle East News Agency in Amman "The embassy in Amman, and the Egyptian consulate in Aqaba been pursuing the incident continuously, and that the embassy stands behind its citizens, support them, and do everything in its power to ensure their rights," adding, "We have conducted a telephone conversation with the Egyptian worker to check on his health, and to assure him that the embassy is siding with him and shall ensure his rights." He continues "We have contacted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the affairs of Jordanian expatriates to inform them of the incident, and emphasize the importance of, and the speed of completion of the investigations, and the arrest of the accused, as well as with the head of the Jordanian House of Representatives Engineer Atef Tarawneh." On the other hand, Egypt's Consul in Aqaba Riaz Ahmed told the Agency over the phone - "we have visited the Egyptian worker at the hospital to check on his health, and are following an ongoing basis with the Jordanian officials in Aqaba for the law to take its course against these people." He added "our visit to the Egyptian worker was to deliver a message to him, and to all the Egyptian workers in Aqaba, that the embassy and the consulate will not abandon them, and that they stand by their side ," adding at the same time to improve the health status of workers significantly, as well as the psychological condition." The Egyptian Consul also said "We had the necessary contacts made with the head of Aqaba police, to fully arrest all the persons who have trespassed against the Egyptian worker, the consulate's Lawyer has also been assigned for taking action." A state of anger has prevailed along with the boos in Jordan after the video spread across social media showing how these Jordanian citizens, accompanied by one of the members of the House of Representatives severely beating the Egyptian worker in one of the restaurants.
