The Director General of UN's Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Graziano da Silva announced that the organization would provide the necessary support for the Egyptian national project of reclamation of a million and half acres in Egypt, Al-Bawaba News reported Wednesday. The FAO specified its support through modern irrigation systems in addition to expand the uses of groundwater as well as intensifying the reliance on solar energy in the agricultural sector. This came during a meeting held by Egypt's ambassador to Italy, Amr Helmi with Da Silva where they discussed the different stages of the project and its needs of surface and groundwater irrigation. Da Silva presented possible funding frameworks either in collaboration with the World Bank or the Global Environment Facility in addition to the FAO's readiness to dispatch a technical mission to visit Egypt to discuss various technical and financial aspects of the project.
