The government of Egypt Sunday strongly condemned the Israeli police attack against al-Aqsa mosque and worshipers early Sunday, which left dozens to suffer from tear gas suffocation and caused partial damages inside the compound. The Egyptian government condemned the ‘unacceptable escalation' at the mosque compound, warning of the dangerous consequences of the continued Israeli violations of the religious sanctity of holy sites. It stressed that such acts undermine all efforts exerted toward the resumption of peace talks. In a press statement issued by Egypt's foreign ministry, the government also called on the Israeli authorities to stop its policy of ‘brinkmanship', stressing that serious negotiations that reflect the true political will of all parties is the only way to reach a comprehensive and a just solution to the Palestinian cause in order to enable the Palestinian people to regain their legitimate rights in accordance with the resolutions of the international legitimacy. Early Sunday, Israeli police imposed severe restrictions on the entry of Palestinians into the mosque, while allowing settlers' entry; police attacked Palestinians inside the compound with tear gas canisters and stun grenades, and chased them down to force them to leave the compound. Dozens of suffocation cases were reported among Palestinians.
