The Secretary-General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Iyad Ameen Madani, has welcomed the adoption by the United Nations General Assembly of the resolution to raise the flag of Palestine, as an observer state, over the headquarters of the UN. An OIC statement says, that he considered this step as an international support to the expectations and rights of the Palestinian people. Madani stressed that the resolution to raise the flag of Palestine symbolises the desire of the international community of supporting the two-state solution in accordance with the resolution of the General Assembly in 2012. In this regard, Madani called on the UN Security Council to expedite the adoption of a resolution setting a deadline for ending Israeli occupation of Palestinian lands and achieving a sovereign Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
