MP: JCPOA to be reviewd in line with Islamic system's position
Published in Albawaba on 22 - 08 - 2015

A senior member of the Iranian Parliament said it will review and approve the JCPOA in a way that endorses the Islamic Establishment's stance, it was reported on Saturday.
Abbas Ali Mansouri Arani, a member of Majlis special committee tasked with reviewing the nuclear deal, made the remarks in an article appeared in the English language newspaper Iran Daily.
The UN Security Council issued a resolution about Iran after the country reached an agreement with the P5+1 group of nations in Vienna on June 14. Since then, there have been debates in Iran and the United States about the landmark nuclear agreement known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). US Congress is reviewing the JCPOA and is set to put it into the vote. In Iran, despite heated controversies and arguments, the Parliament has decided to examine the nuclear agreement for which it has set up an ad hoc committee.
The members of the special committee are trusted by all lawmakers and have been selected from various factions and currents with different political inclinations. I, as a member of the above-mentioned committee, hope that it will act in line with national interests and review the nuclear deal with a non-partisan outlook and logic.
More things will come into limelight once the committee meets and the members express their opinions about the JCPOA. No doubt, when it comes to national interests, the committee members will not make any compromises and put aside their partisan viewpoints as they review the deal. I hope that partisan views will never overshadow discussions at the committee which is expected to start its work as of next week.
Once the review of the deal is completed, the results will be presented in a report which will be read out at an open session of the Parliament. Currently, the members have been selected but it is too early to make comments about the process. First the members should meet and state their opinions.
No one knows what will happen in the future but the committee will most probably adopt an appropriate and logical approach to such a significant issue. It is of critical importance to make safeguarding national interests the first priority in the course of the evaluation.
During a meeting between members of the Parliament National Security and Foreign Policy Committee and lawmakers from other committees with senior negotiator Abbas Araqchi, MPs made it clear that they see the JCPOA positively and from a an angel that serves national interests.
The committee and the Parliament will review and approve the JCPOA in a way that endorses the Islamic Establishment's stance. The Supreme National Security Council and the Parliament special committee are expected to vote on the deal in a similar direction and it is very unlikely that two bodies make decisions that run against each other. Anyhow, it remains to be seen how the Parliament will deal with the nuclear agreement.
