Egypt Military Aircraft Crashes near Libya Border Claiming 4 Lives
An Egyptian military aircraft crashed Thursday near the border with Libya because of a technical failure, killing four crew members and wounding two others, spokesman of Egypt's armed forces Brig. Gen. Mohamed Samir said.
"During the work on... prosecution of terrorist elements by the ground forces, an air force technical malfunction happened suddenly, resulting in the crash of the aircraft, killing four heroes of the crew and wounding two,' Samir said via his Facebook page.
The troops engaged in a joint anti-terror raid successfully destroyed four vehicles belonging to alleged terrorists and seized five others, the spokesman added.

Egypt policemen jailed over detainee tear-gas deaths
Four Egyptian policemen have been convicted at a retrial over the deaths of 37 detainees in August 2013.
The deputy chief of Heliopolis police station, Lt Col Amr Farouk, was sentenced to five years in prison after being found guilty of involuntary manslaughter and extreme negligence.
Three other officers were given suspended one-year sentences.

Death toll in Egypt's punishing heat wave rises to 76
Egypt's health minister says 17 more people have died due to an "unprecedented" heat wave, raising this week's death toll to 76.
Health Minister Adel el-Adawy said Thursday that the deaths are mostly among the elderly, and include eight patients of a psychiatric hospital. El-Adawy says 1,205 people are in hospitals being treated for heat exhaustion.
El-Adawy dismissed rumors of a meningitis epidemic when pressed on the escalating death toll.

Egypt prepares to expand buffer zone with Gaza
Egyptian authorities are preparing to expand a buffer zone along Egypt's border with the blockaded Gaza Strip.
In October, Egypt began to establish a buffer zone in North Sinai's city of Rafah following a spate of militant attacks against army and security forces.
North Sinai Governor Abdel-Fattah Harhour said a third phase of the buffer zone will be established soon.
