Islamic Cooperation Organization (ICO) held a meeting in Jeddah to discuss boosting mutual cooperation and developing plans to counter extremist and sectarian violence and Islamophobia, Al-Bawaba News reported Wednesday. The meeting was concerned about the causes of terrorism and extremism in addition to ways of inspiring young Muslims to become a driving force in the fight against terrorism as well as means to confront the terrorist use of the social media. In a statement, the OIC pointed to the necessity of dismantling the extremism speech which is usually drafted in the name of Islam. The ICO discussed the concept of atonement (expulsion of Muslims from Islam) and sectarian fighting between Muslims and its commitment to solve the problem through resolutions adopted by the summit conferences and Foreign Ministers planning to hold a meeting includes scholars and legal experts to develop a strategy to deal with the issue of sectarianism. For his part, the Islamic Development Bank director, Ahmed Mohammed Ali emphasized that terrorism poses a threat to the Muslim world as well as to the entire international community, noting that the Islamic Development Bank, which is the development arm of the organization, is committed to the fight terrorism and extremism which threatens the development of the economy.
