The Grand Mufti of Egypt, Shawki Allam condemned Friday in a statement the demolition of a Sunni mosque by the authorities in Tehran, Al Bawaba News reported. Allam criticized the Iranian security forces' attack on the Sunni mosque in Tehran, considering the move an incentive for extremists and terrorists who are looking for an excuse to carry out attacks on mosques and places of worship, which include Shiite mosques in Muslim countries. The Mufti expressed his concern about these kinds of actions that disturb the relationship between Sunnis and Shiites, especially in light of attempts of rapprochement between the two sides, according to the statement. He asked the moderate religious authorities in Iran to condemn such incidents and try to prevent them from happening because the occurrence of such individual incidents encourages extremists and terrorists to provide justification for their attacks.
