Clashes between Turkish police forces and protesters calling for more action against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) to protect Turkish and Kurdish interests erupted Monday in Istanbul. Police used water cannon, teargas and rubber bullets to disperse the crowds who gathered to protest against the suicide bombing that killed more than 30 people in the border town of Suruc. Some anti-government campaigners chanted slogans like "Murderer ISIL collaborator [Turkish President Recep Tayyip] Erdoğan and AKP," according to Reuters. Other demonstrations in cities across the country, according to local media. The protests erupted hours after the deadly attack also which injured more than 100 people and took place just before noon local time (09:00 GMT). Also on Monday, Turkey's Prime Minister vowed to combat terror in the country and find the extremist group. "Turkey has taken and will continue to take all necessary measures against Islamic State," Ahmed Davutoglu told a news conference in Ankara. "We are face to face with a terrorism incident. We have the willpower to find and certainly punish those who are responsible," he said. "Measures on our border with Syria... will be increased," he added.
