Spokesperson for Egypt's Military, Mohamed Samir said on Sunday a wider security campaign targeted several terrorist hotbeds in villages of Sheikh Zuwaid, North Sinai, causing great losses to militants, Al Bawaba news reported. The crackdown killed 59 militants and destroyed two explosives depots as well as four motorcycles, Samir said in a press release. Four militants including, Gamal Salem, who has been known as an explosives manufacturer, were arrested during the crackdown, the spokesperson added. Meanwhile, Samir said militants of Islamic State (IS)-linked Wilayat Sinai group attacked a security checkpoint in southern Sheikh Zuwaid, killing seven army personnel and wounding seven others. Samir added the ongoing crackdown would not end until the Sinai Peninsula was cleansed of terrorists.
