Egyptian Foreign Minister, Sameh Shoukry named Wednesday Ahmed Abu Zeid as the ministry's new spokesperson instead of Badr Abdel Ati who was nominated as Egypt's ambassador to Germany, Al Bawaba News reported. Mr. Abu Zeid held different diplomatic posts in Egypt's embassy in the United States and the general consulate in San Francisco. He also was the Egyptian Permanent envoy to the United Nations. Abu Zeid, who will take over his duties officially mid-August, served as Secretary of State's office in charge of the Egyptian African relations with the Nile Basin countries. Abu Zeid represented Egypt through a number of international committees as the international Somalia Contact Group, international mediation support team of Darfur issue, the International Contact Group on combating piracy and a range of government envoys in charge of counter-terrorism and humanitarian support of Africa at Harvard University. He is also a member of the National Commission on the follow-up of Nile water issue and the Tripartite Commission for Renaissance Dam negotiations. Prior to joining the diplomat field, Abu Zeid worked as a consultant for the Department of International Cooperation Information Center and Decision Support, the Fund for Social Development under the chairmanship of Ministry Council. Abu Zeid, is a Bachelor of Political Science, Faculty of Economics and Political Science, Cairo University.
