Qatari emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani and Iranian president Hassan Rouhani have agreed upon strengthening bilateral ties to achieve regional stability, Al Arabiya News reported on Friday. The two leaders in a phone call Thursday reached a consensus over the need to bring regional violence to a halt during the holy month of Ramadan, which started June 18, according to Iran's ISNA news agency. While Qatar backs Syrian opposition factions and basically shares in the Saudi-led coalition against Houthi rebels in Yemen, Iran is Syrian President Bashar Al Assad and Houthi insurgents' main ally. "There might be differences over some issues, but the two countries, as friends, brothers and neighbors, should get over these obstacles," Sheikh Tamim said, calling relations with Iran "historical and robust", according to Al Arabiya News.
