Security forces detained Tuesday 33 fugitives during a security crackdown in North Sinai governorate, Tahrir TV channel reported. North Sinai security directorate announced in a statement that the authorities detained 33 fugitives, explaining that they were found guilty by the court in a number of cases and the necessary legal actions will be taken against them. Meanwhile, the armed forces detonated Tuesday seven improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in different locations, in Sheikh Zuweid, northern Sinai province. This came at a time of which the military forces deployed more troops in the province, in order to intensify security presence and establish more security checkpoints. Authorities attempt to increase the security grip on the province, out of fear of possible terrorist attacks during the holy month of Ramadan. President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi has been trying to revive the country's economy, after the June 30 Revolution, which led to the ouster of president Mohamed Morsi, the leading member of Muslim Brotherhood (MB) terrorist group. The country has been living in a state of political turmoil and security vacuum as a result of MBs' targeting of state institutions, army personnel and policemen, especially in northern Sinai.
